Content Insurance (Inland Marine)

Content Insurance, also known as Inland Marine, is additional insurance that covers additional belongings that renters insurance, homeowners insurance, and other policies will not cover the entire replacement value if the item is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. For example, cash, jewelry, fine art, guns, china, and other valuable items all have a limit that an insurance company will pay if there is a claim. If you have a $10,000 Rolex watch, you will need additional coverage (content insurance) to cover that item if it was lost, destroyed etc. A homeowner’s policy might only cover $2,000 so an additional $8,000 rider will need to be added.

If your entire jewelry collection is valued and appraised at a number greater than $2500.00, and you would like to replace it or get cash value if it was stolen, destroyed etc, an additional rider will need to be added to your policy to cover those expensive items. Cash is hard to insure, but you can get an inland marine policy to cover cash.
